Mako's Make Waves At Weekend 1 Lancs County Champs 2026

Kara Howard

An incredible weekend of racing at Counties and we couldn’t be prouder of how our swimmers performed. Every athlete came away with their own successes, showing resilience, determination and confidence on a big stage

Highlights from the weekend:

  • Rosie made a brilliant return from injury in the 50m Backstroke, swimming a strong PB and narrowly missing out on a Regional time – a fantastic comeback and a real statement swim.

  • Stan produced a superb PB in the 50m Breaststroke at his first ever County Championships and first LC meet– a huge milestone and one to be very proud of.

  • Jack went an incredible 4 out of 4 LC PBs, finishing the weekend in style with a Regional time in the 100m Butterfly – consistency and determination paying off.

  • Jasper once again wiped the board with 5 LC PBs, made two finals (50m Backstroke & 100m Butterfly), racing the 100m fly LC for the first time, earning a new Regional time before improving it even further in the final – outstanding racing and confidence throughout.

  • Alfie delivered a phenomenal weekend with 5 LC PBs across the board, finals in the 50m Backstroke, 100m Freestyle and 50m Breaststroke, and medals to show for it:

    • Bronze – 200m IM (HDW)

    • Silver – 200m Breaststroke (HDW)

    • Gold & County Champion – 50m Breaststroke

An exceptional performance and a huge achievement

A massive thank you to Les for his support, guidance and leadership poolside throughout the weekend.

And thank you to the Makos support crew back home for the constant encouragement – the team spirit really does travel.

We’ll take the confidence, momentum and lessons from this weekend straight into training as we get ready for the second weekend of the Championships in two weeks’ time. Bring it on!

Swim proud, Makos
