Kara Howard

Fleetwood Makos made a splash at the 2025 Wigan Summer Sizzler on Sunday 1st June, delivering an outstanding performance packed with medals, personal bests, and team spirit.

Our swimmers brought home a fantastic 14 golds, 7 silvers, and 5 bronzes, alongside an impressive 69 new personal bests across the day. Every athlete gave it their all, showing the determination, focus and support for one another that defines what it means to be a Mako.

A special mention to three of our swimmers who were recognised with Wigan Wasps Award Medals:

  • Jess – for her exceptional dedication and effort in every event. A true team player with unwavering focus.

  • Harry Beech – for a standout day of top-class performances across the board.

  • Jackson Offord – for his confident and composed debut at his first open gala.

We also want to say a heartfelt thank you to Wigan Wasps Swimming Club for hosting such a well-organised and welcoming meet. The event was a brilliant showcase of grassroots swimming, full of energy and enjoyment for athletes, coaches and spectators alike.

Huge appreciation as well goes to our Fleetwood Makos poolside team – Helen, Phil, Jaime, Stu, Jules and Louise – for keeping the day running smoothly for our swimmers. Thanks also to Head Coach Les, and to our officials Paul and John for giving their time to support the event.

And of course, a big thank you to our Makos parents and families – your support from the stands, and behind the scenes, is invaluable.

Well done to every swimmer who took part – let’s keep building on this momentum as we move through the summer season.
