MAKOS MAKING WAVES AT REGIONALS – WEEKEND ONE RECAP

Kara Howard
What an incredible start to the Swim England North West Summer Regional Championships today for Alfie Bigden and Jack Howard!

Alfie was first up in the 100m Breaststroke and kicked off the day with a brilliant swim. Competing in a combined 11/12-year-old age group, Alfie—who is just 10 years old—qualified against swimmers potentially up to 18 months older than him. To even make it into the top 24 in the region at that level is a huge achievement. He held his own brilliantly and finished 21st across Lancashire, Cumbria, and Cheshire—an amazing result and a proud moment for both Alfie and the club!
Next up was Jack, who entered the event ranked 18th in the 13-year-old category. He swam an outstanding heat, not only winning his heat but smashing out a 2-second PB! His final placing was an impressive 14th in the region, a brilliant performance that reflects all the hard work he’s been putting in.
A massive well done to both boys—we’re so proud of what you’ve achieved! And a big thank you to Les, our Head Coach, for being there to support them poolside today.
Next up: Jack and Jasper will be heading to Liverpool in three weeks’ time for Weekend Two of Regionals. Preparation starts now—let’s go, Makos!
